At last, Mercedes-Benz will get a chance to level the playing fields with its German brethren, thanks to the new C 63 AMG Coupe. For the first time ever, we get a two-door C-Class in this level and as such, get a direct rival to the BMW M3 Coupe and the new Audi RS 5.
Merc unveiled the C-Class Coupe range just last month with two different engines, starting from a 150kW 1.8-litre twin turbo and ending with a revised 3.5-litre V6 worth 225kW. Quickly the brand has decided it’s worth aiming even higher by releasing the AMG version. Unfortunately they have kept that old 6.2-litre V8 and its 336kW. Don’t get me wrong, this is a monster of required note. But for a brand new car one would think a brand new engine would be fitted, such as the 4.7-litre twin turbo for instance. In any case, the company claims a 0 – 100km/h time of 4.5 seconds through the 7-speed MCT ‘box. With 600Nm of torque it’s also the most torquey in its class.
Specs to set it apart from normal C Coupes include a new power dome on the bonnet, clear-lens headlamps, a new front apron, wide side fenders, new 18-inch AMG alloys in titanium grey, a black rear diffuser and those chrome twin tailpipes.
Inside nice accessories like TFT colour displays, high-gloss piano finishes, AMG badges all and sundry and AMG sports seats. Buyers will be able to choose between four single tone and three two-tone interiors. The Comand system features Google Maps navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a USB/ SD card interface.
